A travel eSIM is a digital mobile profile stored in your phone. It avoids carrying or swapping a physical card, but it does not automatically protect the phone, apps or online accounts. Good device security is still essential.
Protect the phone first
Use a strong PIN or password, biometric unlock and automatic screen locking. Install operating-system and app updates before departure. Enable Apple Find My or Google Find Hub so you can locate or secure the device if it is lost.
Keep installation details private
Treat the QR code and manual activation details like private credentials. Do not post them online or forward the installation email. If the code does not work, follow our QR code troubleshooting guide instead of sharing it publicly.
Secure your accounts
Use unique passwords and two-factor authentication. Save recovery codes somewhere separate from the phone. Our guide to receiving OTP codes while traveling explains how to keep access to your home number.
Use the connection carefully
For sensitive tasks, prefer mobile data to unknown public Wi-Fi. A trusted VPN can add protection on untrusted networks, but may affect speed or app access. See our VPN and Private DNS guide. Never share passwords, OTP codes or payment details with anyone claiming to be support.
