Public Wi-Fi can save mobile data, but open or unfamiliar networks may be slow, restricted or impersonated. A few simple checks reduce risk at airports, hotels, cafés and stations.
Confirm the network name
Ask staff or check official signage before joining. Similar-looking names can belong to another hotspot. Disable automatic connection to open networks and avoid installing certificates or apps requested by an unexpected login page.
Protect sensitive activity
Use current apps and HTTPS websites. Avoid changing important passwords, entering payment details or accessing banking on an unknown network when mobile data is available. Compare the options in travel eSIM versus public Wi-Fi.
Limit device exposure
Turn off file sharing, nearby sharing and network discovery. A trusted VPN may add privacy, but can reduce speed or trigger app blocks. See how VPN and Private DNS affect eSIM data.
Disconnect when finished
Forget the network after use and turn off Wi-Fi when you no longer need it. If public Wi-Fi fails, switch to EasyTripGo mobile data and verify the correct data SIM and roaming settings. Use our mobile-data troubleshooting checklist if the eSIM connection also fails.
